Research Process

​THE RESEARCH PROCESS WHEN CREATING A CHILDREN'S BOOK:

Hey all, Amy here today. Jeremy thought I would be able to answer
this one a little easier than him lol.

There is no hard and fast answer. No right or wrong way. But this is generally
how I go about researching for a book....

* Decide on the topic/subject matter/destination/main event that your story
is going to revolve around

* Search engines are a great starting point, so chuck a few keywords into the
search bar and start taking notes

* Reach out to friends and family online that may know more about the place
your story is set, or have personal memories of past historical events that you
might want to include but also, they know their own children and what they are
interested in, so you are literally including your audience in the creation process

* Get the ideas, opinions and points of view of your own children/grandchildren/
nieces/nephews etc. Having input from the people that will be potentially reading
your books is so helpful. It also helps you to see things through the eyes of a child,
as that is really how the story should be written, so it makes sense and appeals to them.

* Read books or magazine articles about your topic.

In today's technical age, we have all the information we could ever need, at our fingertips,
so there is no excuse for not doing research. You don't even have to leave the sofa if you
don't want to lol.
